Subtropical Forests Ecology Course

19-20 August   The first weekend of our ecology course was rather chilly. However the  enthusiasm of our presenters and participants soon warmed us all as we learned about soils, forests, bugs and bats. Fergus and Steve demonstrated our short time on the planet in a geological time line and then we got down and dirty to learn about soils. Marc and Spencer took us into the forests to learn about the structure of different types of subtropical forests. On Saturday night Les Hall shared some of his vast knowledge about bats.

On Sunday Michelle Gleeson and Lani Heslin helped us discover that invertebrates are numerous, even on cold winter days. Then it was off to Branch Creek to learn about the needs of our vertebrate fauna in the eucalypt and rainforest habitats. We are all looking forward to the second weekend on 2-3 September!
